Adopt a Word
Brief: Children’s charity, I CAN, asked Remedy to develop an engaging online fundraising initiative, ‘Adopt a Word’, aimed at anyone looking for an alternative charity gift, and etymologists and lexicographers (that’s word lovers to you and me).
Solution: Supported by Collins Dictionary, Adopt a Word taps into the growing charity adoptions market – words make fun alternatives to chickens and goats. Visitors to the site adopt their favourite words and receive a personalised certificate and information pack. Remedy also created interactive ‘widgets’, press advertising and merchandise, and an auction of ‘Love’ on eBay.
Result: The word spread, and in the first five months, there were more than 50,000 word searches and over 1,000 adoptions (double the average conversion rate for a charity fundraising site). Celebrity adopters include an MBE, an OBE and even a Spice Girl!
